How to import Blender models into Roblox
Quick answer
Model at Roblox scale, keep each mesh under 20,000 triangles, apply your transforms, export FBX or glTF, bring it in with Studio's 3D Importer, then add textures with a SurfaceAppearance and lights in Studio.
1. Pick your scale before you model
Decide the units first. Our packs use 1 Blender unit = 1 Roblox stud, so a model comes in at the right size with no rescaling. For reference, a default avatar is about 5 studs tall.
2. Clean the mesh
Apply rotation and scale (Ctrl+A in Blender) so the model does not import squashed or turned. Make sure normals face outward; flipped normals make faces look see-through in Roblox. Merge stray duplicate vertices.
3. Respect the triangle limit
Roblox caps a single mesh at 20,000 triangles. Split anything bigger into parts; there is no limit on how many parts a model has.
4. Export and import
Export FBX or glTF/GLB from Blender, then use Studio's 3D Importer. Check the preview before you confirm: models often come in facing the wrong way, and it is easier to fix the rotation in Blender than to rotate every copy in Studio.
5. Textures with SurfaceAppearance
Roblox uses the mesh's own UVs, so unwrap in Blender. Upload your maps as images and put them on a SurfaceAppearance: ColorMap, NormalMap, RoughnessMap and MetalnessMap. A map that is one flat colour is better as the SurfaceAppearance Color than as an image.
6. Lights and glow happen in Studio
Blender lights and emission do not come across. Add PointLights or SurfaceLights in Studio, and use the Neon material for parts that should glow.
